Traveling has two major advantages. Firstly, you go to so many different places, understand the culture and do fun things there, secondly, you eat a variety of food. I had a great time when I visited the best restaurants in New Orleans and had amazing food. I met somebody there and he suggested I should visit Morocco, so I came here and tried a lot of Moroccan cuisines out of which these are my top 11 Moroccan food you must try.

Good food is something we all crave for and if there is a country which is known for its famous cuisines then what better than that.

Moroccan cuisine is a fusion of Arabic, Mediterranean, Berber, and some other equally authentic cuisines.

When you have a lot of options to try you get confused because you do not know which one you should try and which one you should give a miss and the same happened with me too so before heading there I did thorough research and was very particular about my choices.

1. Couscous

Couscous is one of the most famous Moroccan food. People from different parts of the world are aware of it so when they arrive in Morocco the first thing they order is Couscous and I did the same.

It is served with meat like chicken, lamb, mutton, or vegetable stew. I am a non-vegetarian so I ordered Couscous that had chicken in it. It was so delicious that I went back there again after a day to have another meal. Couscous is garnished with buttermilk or raisin.

2. B’ssara

B’ssara is one of the most famous delicacies of Morocco. It is prepared through dried fava beans.

It is good for your health. This soup is mostly served as a breakfast and people enjoy it with fresh oven bread.

3. Tagine Of Lamb And Merguez Sausages

It is cooked in a traditional manner and mostly eaten in the same cooking vessel which looks like a clay pot. It is cooked very slowly to get the taste it is known for.

The dish is served in almost all the top-class restaurants in Morocco. Tagine is made according to your preference if you are a non-vegetarian it can be served with chicken, meat, or lamb, and for vegetarians only with vegetables.

4. Chermoula Fish

It is one of the most popular fish dishes with a mix of herbs and spices.

It is used as a marinade and enjoyed with warm bread or rice.

5. Bastilla

Bastilla is another one of the most famous Moroccan food which is also known as Pastilla. I must tell you I had never eaten something like that ever in my life but I will definitely have it a million times in my lifetime for sure.

There are mainly two versions of Bastilla one with poultry and the other is seafood. The poultry version is basically pigeon pie cooked with pepper, and cinnamon, and garnished with almonds. Now it is mostly served with chicken.

6. Maakouda

One of the most popular street food in Morocco is Maakouda.

It is fried potato balls used as a sandwich filler and sometimes eaten as a plain item.

7. Harira

It is mostly served as a starter, a Moroccan traditional soup. It is basically a soup with tomato, chickpeas, beaten eggs, and lentils.

I found it very tasty, Sometimes noodles or rice are added as per your preference.

8. Chicken With Lemon And Olives

It is another popular dish cooked in a tagine or sometimes in a traditional pot.

Preserved lemon is used to make this chicken dish. With a combination of chicken, paprika, preserved lemon, and olives you get a delicious chicken recipe.

9. Zaalouk

Itis another very popular Moroccan food in Morocco. It is mostly served with bread. The recipe includes eggplant, tomatoes, garlic, cayenne pepper, and chili powder with a dash of lemon.

I was very apprehensive of this dish but when I had it, it was yummy. It is one of the best Moroccan dishes.

10. Lamb With Prunes

The tender meat is mixed with cinnamon, honey, pepper, garlic, saffron, ginger, prunes, and cilantro.

It tastes so well and is a very popular dish here.

11. Rfissa

It is another popular Moroccan cuisine. It is served in various traditional functions. Rfissa is served with lentils, chicken, crusty bread, and ras el hanout.

I was about to order something else but I peeked into the table next to me and they were having Rfissa so I asked the waiter to serve me the same dish and to my surprise, it was so amazing.

12. Mechoui

Roasted lamb or Mechoui is made with a combination of pepper, lamb ribs, ginger, and butter.

It tastes so well.

13. Tanjia

Tanjia is a local dish of Marrakesh. People who love meat, it is heaven trust me. It is made on low heat so it takes time to prepare but it melts in your mouth so easily, while writing this it reminded me of that mouthwatering taste.

It contains lamb. preserved lemon, ginger, spices, and a lot of love.

14. Sardine

Sardine is another popular fish in Morocco. Stuffed sardine is one of the most famous street food in Morocco.

It is stuffed with chermoula and then fried. For garnishing fresh parsley is used.

15. Stuffed Camel Spleen

This was also a first for me. I was told people are crazy about stuffed camel spleen and come from different parts of the world to have it. It is a traditional specialty of Moroccan food.

It contains camel meat, lamb, hump fat, olives, and spices. They are baked in ovens.

16. Stuffed Msemen

Stuffed Msemen is another Moroccan cuisine that is really amazing. It is also called Rghaif.

I ordered chicken stuffed Msemen which had a flat square-shaped bread, ground chicken, and pepper. It is one of the best spicy Moroccan food.

For vegetarian people stuffed Msemen contains bread filled with vegetables and spicy herbs.

17. Gazelle Horns

Gazelle Horns are crescent-shaped pastries stuffed with almond paste, cinnamon, orange flower, and pistachios.

It is also known as Kaab el Ghazal and is one of the famous desserts.

This tea is quite famous here. It is also called Moroccan Whisky made with mint leaves, green tea and sugar.

Mint tea is also a powerful antioxidant and that is why a lot of people prefer it.

Lamb Shish Kebab and Vegetarian Couscous are two of my other favorite Moroccan food.

Places To Visit In Morocco

1.Fez

Fez is known for its rich culture. So I visited to understand the culture and I was completely mesmerized. I was very impressed by Fes-el-Bali.

Fes-el_Bali is an old stoned wall and is a UNESCO heritage.

2.Essaouira

Essaouira is a port city rich with culture. You will see several art galleries. Some of the famous sights here are Medina<tagart beach and Sqala Du Port.

3.Marrakesh

Marrakesh is one of the most famous cities in Morocco. It is famous for riads and beautiful palaces popular ones are Royal Palace and El Badi Palace.

I also went to the Marrakech Museum in Dar Menhebi palace that showcases Andalusian architecture. Majorelle garden was one of my favorite spots in Marrakesh.

4.Casablanca

Casablanca is known for its fascinating architecture. Villa des Arts is a very well known art museum in Casablanca. I had lunch in the famous Le Cabestan restaurant with an amazing Atlantic view.
