I had visited Louisiana before and had been to a number of amazing places there but had never been to New Orleans. I am a big foodie and my friends know this so one of my friends suggested I should visit New Orleans as there are incredible places to eat in New Orleans.

As soon as I heard I started to search on Google and looked for the best places to eat in New Orleans and then compiled a list of

47 Best Restaurants In New Orleans

I had read a lot of reviews and testimonials before zeroing down to these 47 incredible places to eat in New Orleans. I am very clear about the taste, I mean I can’t compromise on it even for 1%.

Before starting with the list let me brief you about New Orleans which is also known as Big Easy. New Orleans is famous for its cuisine, vibrant nightlife and music.

Some of the famous places are The New Orleans Museum Of Art, St. Charles Avenue, Jazz National Historical Park, New Orleans Botanical Garden and the French Quarter.

I heard a lot about the Mardi Gras carnival celebration and it really lived up to my expectations. For jazz lovers, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is very famous.

Let’s start with the famous New Orleans restaurants and I must tell you eating in New Orleans has been a very satisfying experience.

1. Brennan’s

Brennan’s is one of the best restaurants in New Orleans French Quarter and also one of the most famous landmarks in New Orleans. It is known for its world-famous Creole cuisine.

I also loved Banana Fosters, it was really delicious.

2.Ralph’s On The Park

Sunday brunch is always packed here. The restaurant offers a beautiful view of City Park Avenue. For appetizers, shrimp skully is a great start. Grilled steak and BBQ Gulf shrimp are crowd pullers.

Their two-course lunch is also praiseworthy. I wanted to have desserts and tried lemon icebox pie and it was super delicious. The wine list is something to talk about.

3.Parkway Bakery And Tavern

The restaurant is located on Hagan Avenue. This is a more than a century-old restaurant. Since 1911 it has been consistently delivering amazing food. The staff is friendly. There is an outdoor seating arrangement as well. Smoked Ham is one of the most delicious dishes.

The Butter Rum Cake is to die for. Italian meatball is one of the most popular dishes.

4.Molly’s Rise And Shine

Located on the famous Magazine Street, it is a strong competitor to its competitors on Magazine Street. This is known to serve great breakfast meals. Burritos, yogurt, and deviled eggs to name a few.

It is an American neighborhood restaurant. The hospitality is top-class here. The menu has all varieties of food. Their tuna ham is to die for. Semolina dumplings are one of their special dishes.

For side dishes, roasted baby vegetables are their specialty. Chocolate Ganache is one of the yummiest desserts. Cocktails and wines are by far the best here. You will love Lune De Miel cocktail. If you love red wine you will surely love Denis Mortet.

It is known for special Cajun dishes. Located on Carrollton Avenue, Toups Meatery has a Louisiana tradition. Confit Chicken Thighs consisting of ham braised greens and lardons are one of their specialties. For wine lovers, Sanctum Pinot Noir is one of the best options.

This is an upscale Italian restaurant located on Bienville Street. Serving since 1993 Irene’s is quite known for their excellent customer service and their food is simply amazing.

Their appetizers include the delicious Italian Sausage with Caramelized Onions And Peppers. Shrimp And Crab Pappardelle consisting of shrimp, basil, crabmeat, Parmesan cream, and other ingredients tastes wonderful. They have a beautiful piano bar where you can enjoy your drink.

It is a very popular open-air coffee shop in French quarters and a big tourist attraction located at the corner of Jackson Square.

A french style doughnut Beignet is quite famous here. It is opened 24 hours a day.

Apart from Beignet, the menu includes chocolate milk, dark roasted coffee, chicory, and orange juice. I loved the dark roasted coffee.

12.Maypop

It is a popular contemporary restaurant known for pasta dishes. Their Gulf fish in crawfish coconut cream is the crowd’s favorite. The crispy fried oysters are simply delicious. Maypop pie is the most popular dessert here. They have an impressive list of drinks too. Mekong Collins cocktail is a crowd-pleaser.

They offer one of the most delicious French, Spanish And Italian cuisines. Pork porterhouse, seared tuna, and fettuccine Nero are the most popular dishes. Crispy pork cheeks are one of the most loved appetizers.

This Louisiana restaurant is known for being extremely courteous with its guests. People always have good things to say about their staff’s customer service. It is known for pork dishes. You will love cajun southern dishes here. I loved shrimp remoulade with pancetta. It was super tasty. The brown sugar pound cake is simply delicious.

Tempranillo wine tastes great and I simply loved it. The customer service is first rate.

Located on Magazine Street, it is one of the popular restaurants here. The appetizers include the impressive flambeaux shrimp and oyster BLT. Mississippi rabbit fricassee is another dish to watch out for. Double cut pork chop, chicken, and andouille gumbo are the other two crowd favorites. The cocktails list is also a hit with the customers with the likes of zombi nog and le Bon Ami.

It is one of the most popular Vietnamese restaurants. The appetizers and dinner menu are quite extensive. They have a lot of vegetarian dishes as well. It is located in Gretna on Lafayette Street. It is only 15 minutes drive from New Orleans.

Casamento is an old styled but famous restaurant in New Orleans.

Gulf oyster is a major attraction here. They are a little traditional as they do not accept cards only cash.

The white and green walls are nothing fancy but the food and service are top class.

Serving since 1919 it offers the most authentic seafood.

It is closed in June, July and August and all major holidays and closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

I ordered Oyster loaf, Eli’s of Chicago cheesecake and union chickory coffee.

23.Costera

Located on Prytania Street, this Spanish restaurant serves amazing Gulf seafood. The ambiance is quite pleasing and you would like to come here again and again. Few popular dishes are dry-cured Iberico chorizo and Terres major steak. Iberian red and white wines are super hit.

24.Compere Lapin

It is located in Old No. 77 3 star hotel on Tchoupitoulas street. The restaurant has an interesting menu and top-class wines. Sunday brunch is one of their most popular days.

Caribbean chopped salad is one of their specialties. Chicken liver mousse and goat curry are two popular dishes. The wine list is very impressive too.

Gulf fish, crabbed meat and quite popular here. They also serve the most delicious soups. Rabbit gumbo and trout meuniere are the other hot favorites here.

What sets them apart is their outstanding customer service.

I ordered Grilled Filet of Beef and shrimp cornbread. After the meal, I was craving for desserts so I had Bread Pudding du Jor and double chocolate cake.

26.La Petite Grocery

This neighborhood eatery is located in Magazine Street. I was not planning to eat there but just went to have a drink but then I looked at the menu and decided to order Panned Rabbit and I was blown away with the lovely taste.

I came to taste their wine in the evening and I loved Decoy Brut Cuvee NV. The staff was very courteous.

I had my breakfast here on the second day of my arrival in New Orleans and the first thing I ordered was coffee and it was so amazing.

Located at O Keefe Avenue it was very busy on the weekends and that showed why it is so popular. Bruto cookies were on display so I could not control myself and had three cookies.

I spend some time taking pictures of the surrounding and I must tell you I liked the atmosphere there.

I was hungry and wanted to eat more so I ordered hangover bowl and summer hash. The quantity was too much for me but I gave it a go thinking I will skip my lunch.

28.GW Fins

Located in Bienville street, GW Fins is most famous for fresh seafood. Lobster Dumplings and Firecracker Tuna Tacos are two of the most popular dishes here.

Their wine list is impressive too. Palmer & Co and La Crema Chardonnay 2017 are crowd favorite. They have a list of special cocktails too and Apple Barrel 12 is the most impressive of the lot.

It is a southern restaurant with exceptional cuisine. The service is first class and the ambiance is very relaxed.

This upscale restaurant serves amazing Spanish and Italian cuisines.

Foie gras and cinnamon roll are the two most popular dishes.

I ordered steak frites and red wine and I must say it was out of this world.

It is a lovely fine dining restaurant in Upperline Street. Their customer service is really impressive. The ambiance is easy on the eyes. Their three-course dinner is quite popular.

Louisiana Pecan Pie is loved by people. It was awarded the best restaurant of 2017 by The Times Picayune newspaper.

Located in the Magazine street Saba serves the best Isreali cuisine.

I went to Saba twice once for brunch and the next night for dinner.

For brunch, I had the delicious Israeli salad, tahini, and pickled cabbage and for dinner the next night I had harissa roasted chicken and in desserts the mouth-watering Labneh Cheesecake.

If you are looking for coastal cuisine, Briquette is the best place.

Chicken gumbo and fried shrimp are the two most popular dishes here. This stylish restaurant offers a variety of wines, some of them I had never heard of but were just perfect.

I started with Creole Gumbo and then I asked the chef about the latest addition in their arsenal and he said Florida sword and I immediately ordered it. It contained Pork belly plantain mash with market green and shrimps, so amazing! Lastly, I had dark chocolate Creme Brule.

Located in Chartres Street, Sylvain is an upscale restaurant that offers popular local cocktails with amazing food. Try their glazed short ribs or crispy pork belly. They are simply superb.

Sylvain burger which contains dill pickles, cheddar and many more stuff is quite popular. The wine collection is impressive too.

The coastal seafood is one of the most popular in New Orleans. Smoked Tuna Dip is terrific. Jumbo shrimp is another dish you will love for sure. Salted peanut pie tastes great. I thought this is my last dessert but I was tempted to have Key Lime pie too and it was simply great. The restaurant has a lot to offer.

Their food, service, ambiance, everything is top notch, definitely worth a visit.

It is famous for its terrific Italian cuisine and a lot of variety and taste.

This casual yet stylish restaurant offers amazing pasta, my favorite was Angel Hair Bordelaise. Founded in 1989 it serves some of the famous cuisines like corn and crab bisque and chicken parmigiana.

Then I had Merlot, Woodbridge red wine to end the day.

37.Cavan

This is another popular restaurant in Magazine Street with a relaxed outdoor seating arrangement as well. Try the grilled octopus with crispy onions and white beans. It tastes so good. Jerk chicken is another great dish. The customer service is first-rate. It is a double-storeyed restaurant.

Shrimp and grits and smoked duck French toast are very popular. If we discuss wines the list is endless, from Bosso Prosecco to Charles Heidsieck they have a great collection.

Located in Dauphine street this old cottage with lush courtyard is perfect for romantic dinners and some special functions.

It is mostly visited by couples and I must say the service is outstanding. I went with my friend and we ordered grilled Gulf Shrimp as an appetizer and then we had grilled duck breast and Limoux sparkling wine.


Other famous dishes are oyster gratin and sauteed redfish.

For desserts, we had the delicious Rhum baba.

It is located in Decatur Street and quite known for authentic Chinese food. Though it is a relatively new restaurant still it has made a big mark among food lovers in New Orleans. Chicken wings are one of the most popular dishes here.

It is the perfect place for steak lovers. I was looking for a place which is famous for steaks and then I met somebody who suggested Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse.

This classic steakhouse is located in Iberville street.

I had a roasted prime rib that contained creole glaze and horseradish cream. Turtle soup is quite popular here.

Located in City Park Avenue, Mopho served some amazing dishes, the popular one includes crispy chicken wings, sloppy roast duck, and glazed pork belly bowl.

The cocktails including dragon lady and tamarind toddy have many takers. The staff is friendly and their service is top notch.

Duck Crepe is one of the most popular dishes here. It consists of roasted duck, pistachios, and many other ingredients. For seafood lovers, Shrimp Clemenceau is one of the best options. The ingredients include Louisiana shrimp and Brabant potatoes. The wine list is impressive too with the likes of Merlot and Cabernet Franc and many more.
